  • Article XIII, Section B(5) of the Suffern Education Association Collective Bargaining Agreement establishes guidelines regarding the approval of courses for salary advancement, including, but not limited to, the number of credits that may be approved per semester/year and the number of online/asynchronous credits that may be earned and used for a lane advancement. You can find a copy of your Collective Bargaining Agreement HERE.

Some educational programs leading to Master’s degrees, Certificates of Advanced Graduate Study, and/or additional New York State teaching certifications require enrollees to take more credit hours in a given semester and/or school year than permitted by Article XIII, Section B(5) of the CBA and/or only offer courses asynchronously.

Effective July 1, 2024, unit members already enrolled (with courses already approved in Mylearningplan) in an educational program operated by an accredited university and/or college that will lead to a Master’s Degree, a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, or an additional New York State teaching certification, may request, through this form, that the District waive the provisions of Article XIII, Section B(5)(ii) and (iii) of the CBA with respect to the number of credit hours that may be approved per semester/year and/or the number of online/asynchronous credits that may be applied towards salary advancement per year from such educational program.

Effective October 1, 2024, unit members requesting a waiver for educational programs commencing on or after October 1, 2024 must request the waiver simultaneously with the submission of their request for course approval in My Learning Plan pursuant to Article XIII, Section B(5) of the CBA, but in all cases no later than two (2) weeks prior to the unit member registering for the educational program.

The Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources may grant or deny any request at his/her discretion.

The Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources shall notify the unit member whether his/her waiver request has been approved or denied, in writing, within ten (10) school days of the request.

The Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources’ decision to grant or deny a waiver request shall be final and binding and may not be grieved pursuant to the grievance procedure set forth in the CBA between the parties nor otherwise subject to challenge by a unit member and/or the Association.
